Technician Transportation Officer/Engineer (Network Management) within the Highways and Transportation Service, Place Directorate

We are seeking to appoint a Technician Officer/Engineer in the Traffic Services Team. The post-holder will assist with the delivery of the Council’s statutory duties under the Highways Act 1980, New Roads and Street Works Act 1991 and Traffic Management Act 2004 in terms of the management of the public highway.  

The post will be based within the Streetworks section, part of the Network Management Team.  Responsibilities will mainly revolve around managing permit applications to occupy the public highway. 

This will include assessment of applications (for example: Skips/Scaffolding/Goods on the Highway/Café Licences), taking and managing payments and processing permits. The role requires travelling around the borough, so a full driving licence is essential. 

The post holder will be expected to work closely with Councillors, residents and other key stakeholders.  Candidates will need to have good communication skills to cope with the high level of customer interaction.  

The role will involve working closely with people at the Council and external parties to deliver projects in a commercial and customer focussed way, which achieves programmes, meets performance targets and the Councils Corporate Objectives.
