About the role:
The Ethnic Diversity Service is looking for bilingual members of the community who are interested in joining a bank of Bilingual Assistants.
This is an exciting opportunity to use your bilingual skills to make a difference to the learning and personal development of bilingual children in Stockport. You will work in the classroom under the direction of the class teacher, usually half a day a week, for 12 weeks, per child.
- helping bilingual pupils to access the curriculum
- promoting the development of both English and the home language
- raising awareness of cultural issues
- supporting the home/school partnership
Applications from speakers of all languages are welcome. However we are particularly interested in speakers of Bulgarian, Cantonese, Hungarian, Kurdish, Kurdish Sorani, Mandarin, Pashto, Polish, Portuguese, Romanian, Swahili, Somali, and Vietnamese.
Important information:
- The role is school based and therefore the post holder may be offered work in any school in Stockport although we are extending our provision to other nearby authorities e.g. Derbyshire, Manchester, Oldham, Tameside and Trafford,
- Work is offered on a “supply and demand” basis and is part time and casual. The length of the contract (usually for about 12 weeks) and the number of hours offered per week will vary.

Appointment to this post is subject to an enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check. Due to the casual nature of this appointment, it will be compulsory for successful applicants to sign up to the DBS Update Service. More information about DBS checks will be given at the time of interview.
Applicants must also be able to demonstrate a “Right to Work” in the UK.
