We are looking to recruit a highly experienced officer to join our Commercial and Trading Standards Team to regulate and enforce workplace health and safety across Stockport.   

The successful applicant must have recent experience working as an authorised officer under section 19 of the Health and Safety at Work etc. Act 1974 and hold a relevant qualification such as a Diploma/BSc/MSc in Environmental Health, or NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent.  It would be advantageous if the successful candidate is also qualified and competent (in accordance with the current Food Law Code of Practice) to work in food safety on occasion, supporting the wider team.

The team is part of the Public Protection Service based in Fred Perry House in the centre of Stockport, 5 minutes away from the bus and train stations and the M60.  The Service covers environmental health, trading standards, licensing, pest control, hygiene action, cemeteries, parking enforcement and school crossing patrols.  As well as responsibility for food hygiene, and workplace health and safety regulation, the Commercial & Trading Standards Team is responsible for the regulation and enforcement of a wide range of legislation including that relating to food standards, infectious diseases, animal health and welfare, product safety, legal metrology, illicit tobacco, counterfeit products, unroadworthy vehicles and age restricted products.

The successful applicant will help to protect workers’ health and safety within the Borough by carrying out inspections, enforcement and advisory work, investigating fatalities, accidents and complaints as well as undertaking project work.
