We are looking to recruit both casual Teaching Assistants to join our Bureau of casual workers.  Do you have the ability to cover vacancies at short notice, and provide a friendly and professional service for Primary and Nursery Schools in and around the Stockport area?

Working on a casual basis can be very demanding; but it can be very rewarding too. It involves going into Schools for short-term placements, usually to cover staff absence. Placements can be as short as half a day or as long as a full school term.

In order to join our pool of workers you will need the following skills and experience:
• NVQ Level 3 in any of these areas - Childcare, Nursery work, Playwork or Education or equivalent as a minimum requirement
• At least 3 months previous work experience in a similar childcare environment and be able to provide suitable references
• Committed to maintaining high standards in childcare
• Meeting and greeting Children, and providing support during mealtimes
• Carrying out observations, recording documentation and providing feedback to parents on child development
• Flexible, responsible and reliable
• Caring and friendly
• Work in line with all OFSTED requirements
• A valid First Aid certificate would be an advantage, but not essential.

The roles carried out by our Teaching Assistants vary from getting the classroom ready for lessons, listening to children read; reading to them or telling them stories; helping children who need extra support to complete tasks; helping teachers to plan learning activities and complete records; supporting teachers in managing class behaviour; supervising group activities; looking after children who have had accidents; clearing away materials and equipment after lessons to helping with outings and sports events and carrying out administrative tasks as directed by the classroom teacher. Please see the job description and person specification for more details. If you are successful in being recruited to the pool of casual workers all placements will be in a Nursery or Primary School setting.

As part of the recruitment process you will need to complete a Stockport Council DBS (formerly known as Criminal Record Bureau) application, the cost of which is £60 which you will need to pay for. This covers the cost of the application and the administration fee for processing. You will also be required to register with the Update Service and complete a Childcare Disqualification Declaration as a condition of working on the Bureau.

Benefits in working for Stockport Council:
• Paid at the same rate you’d be paid at if you were working on a contract
• Have your own individual webpage which you can use 24 hours a day, seven days week to view and accept available work

This is a rolling recruitment advert; therefore there isn’t a closing date for the return of application forms. The Bureau will send you an acknowledgement on receipt of a completed application form and providing you meet our criteria you will be invited to interview; which will be arranged periodically dependent the needs of the business.

For more information please contact the Casual Bureau on 0161 474 3342 or e mail hrtemps@stockport.gov.uk for a pre-registration form.
