About Us:
The Public Health team is at the heart of Stockport Council’s work to improve the health and wellbeing of our residents, working with partner organisations and local communities to deliver key priorities relating to Health Protection, Health Improvement and Health Promotion. We are heavily involved in the partnership response to Covid-19 and many team members have taken on extra responsibilities to respond to the current situation.
About the Role:
The successful candidate will join the Public Health team to work on a range of programmes including public mental health, suicide prevention, cancer and long-term condition prevention, and behaviour change activities, working with partner organisations, and supporting our work to build back better and fairer post Covid-19. This will involve a variety of activities including research, analysis and communicating policy information effectively to a variety of stakeholders, supporting projects, and commissioning and contract management work, implementing training programmes, analysing data and information, supporting communication campaigns, contributing to the development of strategic plans, and supporting effective engagement with colleagues, partner organisations, and communities to help us reduce health inequalities.
About You:
As a Policy and Projects Officer (Public Health), you will have experience of supporting delivery of programmes and/or projects with an ability to collaborate and think creatively to get things done.
You’ll be highly organised, able to confidently plan and manage a range of activities and equally confident at dealing with people.
You will have excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to analyse data to present complex information in a clear manner to a range of audiences. Engaging communications and report-writing are key aspects of the role.
In addition to a keen interest in public health, and/or public mental health, you’ll ideally have experience or knowledge of:
• Supporting projects
• Analysing and presenting information so it is accessible to the audience
• Researching policies and best practice
• Producing clear and concise written communication
• Engagement with citizens and communities
• Equalities impacts and considerations for Local Authorities
