Specialist Teaching Assistant (deaf children and young people)

Part time: 21 hours (0.6FTE)

SALARY: Scale 5 (£21,589 - £23,836)

21 hours pro-rata, term time only, temporary contract to be reviewed end of July 2021.

Plus casual car user allowance

Required as soon as possible, an enthusiastic and committed person to become part of the Sensory Support Service.  

We require a Specialist Teaching Assistant to support the development, learning, educational progress, independence and inclusion of children and young people who are deaf.

The person appointed will work as part of a team within a peripatetic service providing support for deaf children and young people aged 0-25 years, some of whom use a sign bilingual communication.  The person appointed will work as part of a team under the guidance of the Head of Service/HI team leader and Qualified Teachers of the deaf.
  
The post will be based at either Thorn Grove Primary School and/or Castle Hill High School which are both additionally resourced provisions and form part of the Local Authority’s centrally funded support service for children with Sensory Impairment. 

In addition there may be some outreach work supporting deaf children and young people in a range of other educational settings across Stockport. 

The successful candidate will have effective skills in supporting deaf children and young people within all areas of school life. Excellent communication skills are essential. including a minimum of British Sign Language level 2 and a commitment to achieve BSL level 3 should the contract be extended beyond one academic year.
