Safeguarding Adults Service
Independent Reviewing Officers (Section 42 Care Act 2014).


Fixed term 12 months x 2 posts. Full time Scale point 35-40 £31,401- £36,153


Stockport’s safeguarding adult service is creating an interesting and challenging opportunity for two motivated Social Workers looking to develop their experience by undertaking the role of an adult Independent Reviewing Officer (IRO).


The role will relate specifically to safeguarding adult enquires under section 42 of the Care Act 2014.


Safeguarding adults at risk from abuse is a top priority in Stockport. Much has been achieved in this crucial area over recent years and we are continually striving to strengthen and develop our approach to safeguarding work. The IRO post holders will work as part of the wider safeguarding service with a specific remit to oversee enquiries in relation to the main Mental Health Providers and the Learning Disability supported tenancies managed by Stockport Council staff. The IRO will chair case conferences and oversee investigations undertaken by Enquiry Officers from Pennine Care CMHTs and the Learning Disability Service. The making safeguarding personal agenda will be central to all enquiries.  The service is aiming to streamline the model, so as to ensure a proportionate and effective approach is taken where abuse is known or suspected and ensure the local authority meets its duty in taking the lead in safeguarding enquiries.


In response to local and national drivers set by the Stockport Safeguarding Adults Board and underpinned by the Care Act 2014 Adult Safeguarding in Stockport is developing and changing, creating a model to take Stockport into the future. The IRO role will be part of that model. The IRO role will also include an auditing function to help improve practice across adult social care and provide quality assurance to the board.
