Social Worker – Aspire Complex Safeguarding Team
Children's Services

There’s never been a more exciting time to join Stockport Family: as well as being ambitious about  making a difference in the lives of families in Stockport, we’re sharing best practice and driving innovation as an improvement partner to other authorities. Social workers in Stockport Family have a very important role to play that’s why we make sure they have access to the best support, development and training opportunities.

This is an fantastic opportunity to join the award winning and highly regarded Aspire complex safeguarding team, based in Stockport’s Multi-Agency Safeguarding and Support Hub and co-located with the Stockport Phoenix and Challenger Police teams and other services.

We are looking for experienced social workers who are able to work creatively and restoratively with children and families and manage complex cases where there is a high risk of Domestic abuse, Forced marriage and honour based violence, Child Sexual Exploitation, Serious organised crime, Female genital mutilation, trafficking and modern slavery, radicalisation and extremism.

We are recruiting three social workers to join the Aspire service:

1 fixed term 12 month post to cover maternity leave

The post includes statutory and co-working responsibilities for children and families with a range of complex safeguarding issues as well as opportunities to deliver training, consultation and advice to practitioners and services across Stockport.

You will have experience in working with complex safeguarding issues, excellent assessment, and engagement and intervention skills with children and families.

2 fixed term 12 month posts to implement the Achieving Change Together (ACT) model in Stockport’s Aspire Complex Safeguarding service.

These are new posts as part of the innovation work across Greater Manchester to develop Complex Safeguarding. The ACT social workers will use the ACT model and will work in an intensive and creative way with children who are at risk of complex abuse and exploitation. ACT places children at the centre of interventions, is strength based using families as valuable assets. You will have a protected caseload, which will allow the building of a trusted relationship with the young person whilst working alongside key partners and locality social work teams. The ACT model was developed to reduce cost within the system and prevent young people going into high cost, external or secure placements and this role will focus on keeping families together and children near to their homes and communities.

In return, you will receive regular high quality supervision and support from the team leader, access to training and career development opportunities, and enjoy being part of an innovative team of motivated and enthusiastic colleagues.  Ofsted has rated Stockport as a good authority, in June 2017, and the services delivered by the team are referenced within the SIF report published in August.

The closing date will be 7th September, short listing will take place on 10th September and interviews on 14th September.

For an informal discussion, please contact ASPIRE team manager Leanne Baines on 0161 4756758 or contact her at leanne.baines@stockport.gov.uk.
