Youth Justice Officer
Youth Work

Youth Justice Officer position (YOS: Youth Justice and Targeted Youth Support Services)
Temporary initially to April 2020 with a potential option to extend.
Full Time
SO1 - £26,99-£31,371

Stockport YOS (Youth Justice & Targeted Youth Support Services) are a high performing multi-agency partnership committed to preventing children and young people from offending and other risky behaviours that have a negative impact on their lives. We are a lively, hardworking and dynamic service based within ‘Stockport Family’ integrated services.

The successful candidate will be required to work as part of the statutory multi-agency service providing a restorative approach through Stockport Family and also work collaboratively across the 10 Greater Manchester Local Authorities, to meet the requirements of the Youth Justice Transformation programme, as defined through the Greater Manchester Combined Authority (GMCA). This will be achieved through the statutory functions of the Youth Justice Service, whose principal aim is to prevent offending and reduce re-offending, and through a model of Targeted Youth Support whose main objective is to support vulnerable children and young people who are at risk of engaging in risky behaviours that will affect their life chances.

We are looking for flexible, enthusiastic and highly motivated individuals who have demonstrable skills at engaging complex and often chaotic children and young people.  We seek practitioners who are keen to develop new and improved ways of working through creative and innovative informed practice. Experience of working in a Youth Justice Service or similar multi-agency partnership dealing with factors that lead children and young people into crime is essential. Preference will be given to candidates who hold a relevant professional qualification (eg: Social Work or Probation qualified) but applications will also be considered from candidates who hold a relevant degree plus the Youth Justice PCEP (or equivalent).

This post includes some weekend and out of hours work on a duty rota system (with additional pay).

Potential candidates may find it useful to refer to Stockport’s Youth Justice Plan for more details about the youth justice partnership, which sets out its priorities and vision.

For an informal discussion please contact one of the Youth Justice Team Leaders on 0161 474 4744.

The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory clearance by the Disclosure and Barring Service.
