Caretaker

Salary - Scale 3: £18,795 - £19,171 (£9.74 - £9.94 per hour)

Following the retirement of our experienced caretaker we are looking to appoint a new colleague to join our hardworking, committed and friendly school team.  The successful candidate should be a practical, reliable and trustworthy person who will have responsibility for the security of the school buildings and grounds, and for ensuring that the premises are maintained to a high standard and meet health and safety requirements. This will involve undertaking daily cleaning duties, supervising the work of the school cleaner, non-regulated maintenance & repairs, re-decoration, ordering cleaning & janitorial supplies, winter boiler checks, identifying any health & safety issues and communicating with other members of staff/contractors on site with regard to any issues.

You should be well-motivated and capable of working unsupervised under your own initiative.  Previous experience should include completing handypersons tasks to a high, professional standard together with a basic understanding of health and safety procedures.  Experience of working in a school or similar environment is desirable.  As stated in the application form, in order to provide the best possible chance of success, it is vital to ensure that the Skills, Knowledge and Experience section provides evidence of your abilities relating to the job description and person specification.

This is a full time, permanent, all year round post of 35 hours per week (split shift between the hours of 6.30am and 6.30pm – actual timings to be agreed, currently 6 – 9am + 2.30 – 6.30pm). The role will require the successful applicant to be prepared to be flexible on occasions and usually when agreed in advance, to perform overtime duties related to the use of the premises outside normal working hours. Such activities to include, but not be limited to, lettings, Governor meetings and Parents’ Evenings.

You will be initially entitled to 20 days of annual leave which must be taken outside of school term time. In addition you will receive pay for national Bank Holidays.

Visits to the school are warmly welcomed. Please contact the school office for details. The application form and an information pack are available to download. Completed forms should be returned to the school via the above email address or posted to the school address above. This school is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment. The successful applicant's appointment will be subject to satisfactory pre-employment clearances including an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service check.
