About Stockport Family

There’s never been a more exciting time to join our team: as well as being ambitious about making a difference in the lives of families in Stockport, we’re sharing best practice and driving innovation.

Stockport are proud that our social workers have been recognised by OFSTED (June 2017) as delivering highly effective support and services to children and families – they found that:

"Good social work practice is now in place across all children's services in Stockport, with some examples of outstanding practice".

‘Staff are enthusiastic about their work and are highly committed.’

Last year we had a team leader and student social worker be successful in winning at the National Social Work Awards.

Following on from the inspection Stockport were invited to bid to become a DfE Partner in Practice and we were delighted to be awarded this status in March 2018.

We are looking to appoint a number of Locality team leaders in Children’s social care. The posts are temporary until March 2020 in the first instance but with opportunity to be employed within Stockport family beyond this.

The role

Are you a highly skilled social worker who has experience of supervising and coaching staff, and who is ambitious about improving outcomes for children and families?  Do you want to be a team leader for a busy locality social work team within the integrated Stockport Family service?  If so we'd love to hear from you.

If you join Stockport Family as a locality team leader, you will have a key role in overseeing and supporting social work practice to continue to flourish and be critical in our ambition to be outstanding.

You will lead a locality social work team who work with children and families from the point of duty at the front door, through assessment, child in need/team around the child support, child protection, pre-court and proceedings work, children in care and adoption through to step down/step out of involvement with children’s social care.

We can offer you an opportunity to work alongside a skilled and experienced integrated leadership team with a high level of support and development opportunities.  You will be passionate about developing the workforce to deliver effective interventions to improve the lives of children and families.

The Stockport family model

In Stockport, we believe that relationships should shape the service delivery model, not the point a child is in services.  We aim for children and families to have just one social worker whilst they are in service.  You will provide quality reflective supervision, modelling and coaching to enable staff to build great working relationships.

Stockport Family is committed to working in an integrated way using a restorative approach to enable children and families to remain together wherever possible. Where this is not possible to ensure that children are safeguarded and able to achieve the very best outcomes. You will be passionate about relationship-based social work, proud of your profession and able to reflect and think creatively about how you can build relationships to make a difference with children and families.

You will work within a locality alongside colleagues from health and early years, as well as borough-wide specialist services so that you can access the support, and advice you need easily to deliver the best interventions for children and families, in a system where we share problems and look for solutions together rather than try to off-load them to others.

Our relentless focus is on practice and outcomes for children and families and you will play an important part in delivering outstanding practice and ensuring that children and families are at the heart of all decision-making and service delivery.

What we can offer you:

You will receive regular supervision, access to training and development opportunities and work in a supportive culture where we are ambitious about delivering excellent social work practice and supporting you to be the very best you can be. We offer employees flexible working to support work life balance as this helps us have a happy and stable workforce.

This is what our social workers say:

“Stockport Family really feels like a family. All members of staff including senior leaders are approachable and want the best outcomes for the children and families in Stockport. I started my career as an ASYE at Stockport and progressed to be a senior practitioner. Stockport have been a nurturing family who supported me to flourish and

develop to become a confident and restorative practitioner, giving me support at every stage of my career.”   Locality Senior Practitioner

“I have worked in 3 local authorities. The thing that stands out for me is the morale of the staff. I've worked out why, it comes from the top. I also think that people, senior leaders listen to us, again this is something I have never felt elsewhere, and I've been in this job for 30 years” Locality Team Leader
