In order to join our pool of workers you will need the following skills and experience:

  • Meeting and greeting Children, and providing support during mealtimes
  • Carrying out observations, recording documentation and providing feedback to parents on child development
  • Flexible, responsible and reliable
  • Caring and friendly
  • Work in line with all OFSTED requirements
  • A valid First Aid certificate would be an advantage, but not essential.

The roles carried out by our Nursery Nurses vary from planning day to day activities, carrying out observations and providing feedback, to working directly with children under five and their families in the Children’s Centres and other venues across the Children Centre ‘Reach Area. During the summer our Children’s Centres provide activities for children ranging from birth to 11years of age, experience in working with older children would be beneficial but is not essential.

As part of the recruitment process you will need to complete a Stockport Council DBS (formerly known as Criminal Record Bureau) application, the cost of which is £60 which you will need to pay for. This covers the cost of the application and the administration fee for processing. You will also be required to register with the Update Service as a condition of working on the Bureau.

Successful candidates will be required to attend a mandatory half days’ basic Safeguarding training course as a condition of joining the pool of workers as it is important that you adhere to Stockport Council’s Safeguarding policies’, unless you already hold a current valid Safeguarding certificate issued by either Stockport Council since January 2011 or any Greater Manchester Council after January 2013. Training course dates will be confirmed at a later stage.
