Our work to improve standards of compliance and information rights practices across the public, private and third sectors requires us to investigate, regulate engage and advise, and where appropriate take proportionate enforcement action. The Senior Investigating Officer role is a new position in the recently formed Cyber Investigations Unit. You will be central to identifying, regulating and resolving often complex and high profile cases that have the potential to impact strategically on information rights for example because of specific high risk or unique opportunity. We'll look to you to play a key role in delivering an ambitious, effective and efficient investigation service, using your experience to investigate and take formal enforcement action where appropriate. You will plan, develop and implement investigative strategies working to agreed timescales and collaborating with senior internal and external stakeholders including in legal, policy and technology areas. You will be representing the ICO in a variety of fora, contributing to maintaining public confidence in our regulatory function. You will also play a key role in ensuring thorough investigative, regulatory, review and engagement practices are undertaken.

You'll be educated to degree level or have substantial work experience demonstrating graduate level ability. You'll have relevant experience of conducting/managing highly complex investigations. We'll need you to be able to assimilate and apply complex legislation, spot and manage risk and identify opportunity to meet our information rights goals. Sound judgement that supports proportionate regulatory action is a key requirement as is the need to communicate with influence when dealing with stakeholders from across all areas of public life.
